From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted by a tranquil, organic vibe accentuated by a stunning tree centerpiece adorned with twinkling lights—a natural focal point that instills a sense of calm and connection.
This cozy spot is renowned for its spectacular bingsu offerings—Korean shaved ice desserts—that have garnered loyal fans from the local community. The Mini Fish Bread—a charming batch of bite-sized pastries filled with red bean or custard cream—is a must-try that invites playful eating. For waffle lovers, the Honey Cream Waffle and the inventive Ice Cream & Waffle combinations are richly satisfying, their fragrant sweetness mingling perfectly with thoughtfully brewed espresso drinks like the smooth Caramel Latte and robust Americano. Fans of tea will appreciate the diverse options including Chai, Jasmine, and the soothing Hot Chai Milk Tea, each crafted with care to complement the dessert menu.
Customer testimonials reflect the heartfelt appreciation for both the food and the atmosphere. Regulars admire the spacious layout with its intimate booths and the comforting sense of community that unfolds in this "chill hangout." Many rave about the quality of the snowflake ice—finely textured and buttery smooth—and praise the large, generous portion sizes that make sharing a joy. Came here with friends and family for their bingsu. The large size was impressive and good! The quality of the snow from the milk ice was great! We had ordered 2, red bean classic and mango bowls. I do believe this was the best bingsu I have had in regards to texture and balance of flavor. Bonus points for its larger than life size! My Americano was just OK. Have not tried the milk drinks. Would recommend this place for bingsu Korean shaved ice desserts!
I came here because it was open later than surrounding restaurants. I'd been twice before but it honestly it didnt stand out compared to other places, however it seems like a cozy chill hangout, very much got the vibe it had its regulars who make use of the various rooms and booths. The tree in the middle of the cafe is a nice touch, brings it down to Earth with the lights strung on the ceiling looking like twinkling stars. I would not recommend the Macarons, slightly stale, might just not be very flavorful, but the texture was off too, like it was stale. Drinks are pretty standard fare, korean coffee was good, pistachio cheesecake was good, light and creamy. Service is very straightforward, no frills, order at the counter and get a beeper for when your order is ready. Bing soo looks great.
What an amazing experience!! I walked into The Coffee by Hand & immediately embraced their wonderful aesthetic of organic tranquil vibes. But let me tell you Victoria is really the MVP here!! Not only does she have prestigious customer service but she will help you figure out the perfect coffee for you to enjoy while relaxing in their cozy comfortable environment. I was overly impressed with the iced white chocolate mocha cappuccino drizzled with caramel that she made for me and my colleagues were extremely impressed with their drinks as well. Highly recommending anyone Who is looking for an awesome coffee shop experience!!!
Our family has lived in the area since 1978 (when there were fewer Koreans in Duluth than Korean restaurants today ) and have always been in search of the best bingsu…over the years, new ones have popped up but the bingsus at The Coffee By Hand might be the best ever…they layer the ingredients in the shaved ice so you get I aren’t stuck with just ice at the bottom…portions are huge and the place reminds you of being back in a cafe in Korea…
Ever since I tried this place out, this is my go-to spot for bingsu. The fruits used for the bingsu is very fresh and they actually layer the condensed milk throughout the ice, similar to cake layering, instead of a mountain of ice with flavoring only on top. Each bite was full of flavor.
Really cute cafe! It’s a great spot to study, hang out with friends, and enjoy some dessert and coffee at the same time. My friends and I tried the chocolate oreo bingsu—it was pretty good overall, but there was more ice than we expected. The top had great flavor, but toward the bottom it turned into plain ice with not much taste. Maybe it’s just the Oreo one, so I’m definitely planning to come back and try a different flavor. We also had their handmade macarons, and they were pretty good—slightly pricey, but worth it. I’m looking forward to coming back to check out more of their menu, especially since I saw they also offer some street food items!
Got mini fish bread with custard and a paining turkey Chipotle sandwich very good. Wish there was little more pastries available. There was $1 coffee self service available and water available. Inside was clean and easy to talk to someone because music not loud. Nice to get some coffee, a bite honest while working.
I got an iced caramel macchiato and it was so good like actually hit the spot. I came here to get some studying done and the vibe was perfect. They have cute little booths and private rooms that fit like 3-4 people, so it’s giving productive Highly recommend if you need a chill spot to work or just romanticize your life with coffee
